I honestly don't know if it'd be too late but it can't be a good idea to have water in the block for a while...I mean, just think about it. Then again, if there really isn't much in there or it's some other problem, it still could be salvagable. I mean, what DID you guys do after it died? Did you try cranking it on the spot? Did you crank it when you got back? What did you try? I know of 4 or 5 cases off the top of my head where the damage was not bad at all but yes, most are toast. Still, check it.
